Speech-Language Therapists

Anna Pickton, M.A., CCC-SLP - Clinical Manager/Senior Supervisor-Camp Director

Anna began her career as an SLP in the private school setting where after several years, she became the Speech Coordinator of a rapidly growing program for children with developmental disabilities. It was during this time that she had the opportunity to work with several children who were simultaneously receiving services at Creative Speech Solutions. It was through collaborating with Cynthia and the dedicated and extremely knowledgeable team of therapists at CSS, that Anna realized her strong interest in working at a private practice. She was fortunate to join the CSS family in 2005 and has never looked back!

Anna has extensive experience evaluating and providing therapy for children of all ages with a wide range of communication needs including, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, social language challenges, phonological disorders and childhood apraxia of speech. She enjoys working closely with families to ensure that they feel supported in their child’s communication journey. Anna has furthered her training through professional development courses including Natural Language Acquisition, PROMPT Level 1 and 2, Social Thinking (Michele Garcia Winner), Edythe Strande’s DTTC, Executive Functioning (Pam Dawson), Sara Rosenfield Johnson’s Oral Motor Techniques (Talk Tools), Nancy Kaufman’s Speech to Language Protocol, as well as training in a variety of Augmentative and Alternative Communication Systems (AAC).

Anna is also proud to direct our Camp PAL (Play and Learn) summer program. Developing a program where children can improve their social and language skills while participating in a typical camp experience is a highlight of each summer! In addition, Anna feels honored to mentor her fellow clinicians both in the private practice and school setting, by supporting and guiding them through their tenure at CSS.

Anna believes that great therapists can change lives and loves the dynamic and ever changing landscape of this field. Having grown up with a brother with special needs, she has a unique understanding of the challenges that families face on a daily basis and the impact that great therapists and educators can have on a child’s life. As a result, she has a vested interest in helping families maximize all areas of their child ‘s communicative abilities and providing her client’s with the skills they will need to live the most fulfilling lives possible.

Anna received her Master of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Montclair State University and Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders, with a minor in Italian, from the URI. She is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is licensed to practice in the state of New Jersey.

In her free time Anna enjoys being outdoors, a great cup of coffee, volunteering at her church, and spending time with her family and friends.
