Speech-Language Therapists

Michelle Cooper, M.S., CCC-SLP

Michelle Cooper received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Connecticut and her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Touro College.

Michelle has experience working in both clinical and educational settings. She has had the opportunity to evaluate and treat preschool and school-aged children with a wide range of diagnoses, including receptive and expressive language delays, pragmatic language disorders, articulation disorders, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, and autistic spectrum disorders. In the school system, Michelle has been a member of the child study team, participated in IEP meetings and collaborated with teachers. Michelle was also previously employed as a feeding specialist at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. Here she was trained in techniques to effectively treat children with a variety of feeding and swallowing disorders including failure to advance texture, food aversions, sensory-based feeding issues, gastrointestinal disorders, as well as inappropriate mealtime behaviors. At this program she learned behavior modification techniques helpful for working with children with autism. She also educated and trained parents and school personnel on feeding intervention recommendations and collaborated with the interdisciplinary team. In the acute care hospital setting, she gained experience evaluating and treating adults with traumatic brain injury, dysphagia, dysarthria, dementia, receptive and expressive aphasia, as well as neurological impairments affecting communication. She also provided feeding therapy in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Michelle believes that in life we are constantly learning; she enjoys consulting with her fellow therapists as well as attending workshops and continuing education programs. Michelle is also committed to providing the best therapy to each child she treats. As each child is different, she feels that it is important to tailor therapy based on the individual needs of the child. She is passionate about helping children improve their communication skills, as well as making a positive difference in their lives and the lives of their families. Michelle is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and licensed by the State of New Jersey. She is thrilled to be a part of the team at Creative Speech Solutions.
